One of the most anticipated features of Apex Legends Season 7: Ascension for PC gamers is that the game is coming to the well-loved launcher: Steam. Since launch, if players wanted to play on PC, their only option was Origin, which is glitchy, hard to set your online status and often just stops working. For those that want to jump ship: Now is the time.
The Apex Legends download for Steam just went live, so now you can preload the game on your computer so you are ready to dive into Season 7 as soon as it launches. To do this, all you need to do is go to the Steam page for Apex Legends, scroll down to Preload Apex Legends, and click through to add it to your launcher.

- For some time now, fans have known that Apex Legends will be releasing on Steam and Nintendo Switch. Earlier today, Respawn Entertainment surprised and disappointed fans by announcing that the Steam version of Apex Legends will become available on November 4, starting with Season 7.
The download is 31.4 GB and there is cross-progression between Origin and Steam, so you can pick up where you left off once the new season goes live with the same Apex Legends in-game username. All of your unlocks and cosmetics will be there, along with three brand-new gun charms inspired by Portal and Half-Life, featuring Octane and Wattson.
If the season is already live, you can download the game from the same link. It will be the same size, only the button will say ‘Download’, and the game will already be playable once the download is complete.

However, is this even possible? Can you transfer Apex Legends from Origin to Steam?
Thankfully, this is possible, and today we will cover just that. You might expect that most players want to use Steam as their launcher because it is far more stable, and has been around far more than the Origin suite.
Move Apex Legends from Origin to Steam
There are a few precautions that you need to check-off the list before starting the transfer for Apex. These things include having the game already downloaded through Origin, and finding its install location.
Among these precautions, it is really important that you have the latest version for Apex Legends, in order not to wait for Steam to find the missing updates, and download them.
You can update it through the Origin client.
After that, you can proceed with the transfer for Apex Legends from Origin to Steam, and it goes as follows:
- Find your old install location from Origin.
- Launch Steam and then find Apex Legends and click install.
- Choose a location for install and then open that location from your File Explorer.
- Next, make sure that you cancel the Steam install, and quit Steam fully.
- Transfer your whole old installation folder to the new one from Steam, and when prompted that files already exist, click “Yes to All” – to replace the files.
- Once the transfer is completed, open your Steam application, find Apex Legends, and click install once more.
- The files will start verifying themselves, and download any additional or missing files. You’ll be able to play Apex soon after that.
If you copied the old installation and pasted it to the new one, then you can delete the old one if you aren’t planning to play the game through Origin.
